Appleton the right man for Leeds United

Leeds United are to begin their search for a new manager after current boss, Neil Warnock, confirmed at the weekend that he won’t stay at the club unless they achieve a miraculous promotion to the Premier League.

With Leeds currently languishing 10th in the Championship and without a win in four games, the chances of them clawing back a seven-point deficit over sixth-place Leicester to make the playoffs is highly unlikely and the new owners are already looking at next season for the big push.

Now Warnock is leaving, many Leeds fans in the betting world are wondering who will be the new man in charge and, as luck would have it, a fresh name has just become available that would be perfect for the Yorkshire club.

Michael Appleton was this week sacked by Blackburn Rovers after just 15 games and 67 days in charge. His reign was nothing compared to previous Rovers boss Henning Berg (who lasted a mere 57 days) but nevertheless the departure has shocked fans in the betting world.

For Appleton is one of the best young bosses currently without a job having made a success out of stints at both Portsmouth and Blackpool before Rovers came calling.

Evidently that career move was a mistake but there is currently no disgrace in failing at Blackburn – a club completely rudderless in its direction and going nowhere fast.

Leeds, on the other hand, have owners who want to move the club forward sensibly and strategically; and one cannot help thinking Appleton needs managerial stability to fully implement his footballing ethos.

He would get time and reasonable resources at Leeds next season and should relish the challenge of automatic promotion. What United fans crave more than anything else is a return to the Premier League and with Appleton at the helm that dream can be realised come May 2014.

  5. Appleton one of the best young bosses without a job????

    Really??

Adkins is the man, but with Reading on the radar as well I fear our owners will miss the boat on that one.

  6. Just read this stupid post after spending 15 minutes trying to see the damn thing, great idea putting black text against a dark blue background dickhead

  7. I hope Leeds appoint someone who knows how the game should be played. I was at the Leeds match on Saturday and the standard was awful. The Leeds players could not pass the ball. It was so amateurish it was untrue. It is a slur on football that this type of fare is dished out to loyal fans. If that is what the game is coming to the game is dead. I call on the new owners to be brave and appoint someone like Adkins who knows how the game should be played.james an Irish fan.

  8. Is this Appleton writing this, hoping to plant the seed with GFH? On your bike pal.

If not, you know nothing about football.

  9. No you are wrong . The football was terrible. A two year old could pass the ball better. How can you condone this disgraceful excuse for a football match. If you accept over paid players unable to perform the basics you should not follow football. It's your hard earned money that is supporting this awful fare.

  10. Dickhead how about Ron Atkinson as director of football while we're at it and build team around brown next season I think he's been played out of position this season he's got that speedy winger/ club captain position nailed on

  11. Our beloved Leeds are a laughing stock. We could not string two passes together on Saturday. Surely there is someone out there who knows how to coach players. GFH get the led out and appoint someone who knows the game of soccer. This weekly insult of fans intelligence has to stop. If reading and Swansea could get promoted by passing the ball surely Leeds can. If the players can't do the basics they should be turfed out and be replaced by those that can play the game. I am sick to death of this tripe every week.

  12. well warnock is saying that because he has already had the exit door shown to him and told to leave at the end of the season by the new owners

  13. Why post an article as rubbish as this and then just sit back and ignore the very good comments left by us true Leeds fans who most definitely do not ever want Appleton, he has not succeeded in any job he has had. Adkins is the only way forward.

  20. What a load of bollocks! Aim high get Di-Matteo, a decent amount of money thrown at the team with a few younger loan players to add some pace and we will be steaming up the league with a decent crowd behind us, get the ball passed about instead of this hoof ball we been playing! Roll on August 2013!

  21. Stark Raving M...M..M...MAAAAD!
Let's be honest here, if we were Serious about Promotion there's Only One Manager we should really be Throwing Money at & That's Evertons 'MOYLE'S!' The one Mgr that's consistently been successful with minimal funds whilst being an ardent fan of an excellent Youth Academy System! If LEEDS are serious about Long Term Success at the club, we'd go All out to brake the Bank to bring in a Calibre Mgr proven time and again at the highest level, as with Revie its about Legacy! It won't be until we get this type of No Nonsense Mgr in that well have any kind of serious success! Besides it sounds as if he's looking for a new Challenge, there's No reason that challenge can't be LEEDS UTD! M.O.T.
